- 4 large Honeycrisp apples
- 3/4 cup water
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Prepare the Apples: If you haven’t already, peel and dice your Honeycrisp apples into small cubes. The smaller the pieces, the quicker they will cook.
Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix the diced apples, water, sugar, and spices. Stir well to combine everything.
Cook the Applesauce: Cover the saucepan and simmer over medium heat for about 15-20 minutes. The apples should be tender enough to mash easily.
Mash and Mix: Once the apples are soft, mash them with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency and stir well.
For a healthier version, skip the granulated sugar and let the natural sweetness of the apples shine.
If you prefer a chunkier texture, mash the apples less thoroughly.
Honeycrisp apples are great for their sweet and slightly tart flavor, but you can also mix different types of apples for a more complex taste.
Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of your apples and personal preference.
Don’t hesitate to experiment with the spices. Some people might enjoy a bit more cinnamon or even a pinch of cloves.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
