History of the Caprese Salad

The Caprese salad originated from the Isle of Capri in the Campania region of Italy. It was crafted to represent the colors of the Italian flag while showcasing the local lush tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and aromatic basil.

Today, it is an icon of Italian culinary simplicity and elegance, celebrated in various adaptations worldwide.

Ingredients for Caprese Salad

  • Mozzarella Cheese: Fresh mozzarella is traditional, adding a creamy texture.
  • Basil: Adds a fresh, peppery flavor that complements the sweetness of the tomatoes.
