  • Boneless skinless chicken breast: Provides a lean, mild protein base that absorbs the BBQ sauce.
  • Diced sweet potatoes: Add a natural sweetness and hearty texture that contrasts nicely with the savory elements.
  • Broccoli florets: Offer a crunchy, earthy balance, soaking up flavors from the sauce and chicken.
  • Pineapple chunks: Introduce a tropical sweetness and acidity that brightens the overall dish.
  • Diced yellow onion: Brings a subtle sharpness and sweetness that deepens the savory profile.
  • Parmesan cheese: Melts into a crispy, salty layer.
  • BBQ sauce: Coats the dish with a smoky, tangy, and sweet flavor, tying all the components together.
  • Lemon juice: Injects a fresh zing that cuts through the richness and enhances the BBQ sauce.

TIPS FOR THE BEST SHEET PAN BBQ CHICKEN

  • Ensure Even Chopping: Chop the sweet potatoes and onions into uniform pieces to ensure they cook evenly. Keeping the broccoli in larger pieces, as suggested, will help it not overcook compared to the denser sweet potatoes.
  • Liberal Application of BBQ Sauce: Be generous when brushing the BBQ sauce on the chicken. The sauce not only flavors the chicken but also caramelizes during baking, adding a rich, deep flavor.
  • Preheat the Pan: For an extra crispy start to your vegetables, preheat your baking sheet in the oven as it warms up. This helps to begin cooking the sweet potatoes and onions immediately, enhancing their texture.

FAQs

Can I use different types of chicken?

Yes, you can use thighs or drumsticks instead of breasts. Just adjust cooking times accordingly, as these cuts may take longer to cook through.

Can I substitute other vegetables?

Absolutely! Vegetables like carrots, zucchini, or bell peppers can be great additions. Remember that their cooking times vary slightly from the recipe’s original veggies.

How do I store leftovers?

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days, making this a great recipe for meal-prepping. They can be reheated in the oven or microwave until heated through.

Is there a way to make this dish spicier or sweeter?

Yes, you can adjust the flavor of your BBQ sauce by adding more spices, such as cayenne pepper for heat or honey for sweetness, before applying it to the chicken.
